For the record, big thanks to ZADIG for getting me out of a hole: http://zadig.akeo.ie/

I needed to bootload a REV7 board and discovered that neither OS X (El Capitan) nor Windows 10 will now allow the Arduino IDE to talk to the USBtinyISP as-is and there was no obvious way round this… Which meant that I could not load new code onto the new REV7s and REV8s I have that happen not to have a bootloader present…  Boo hiss.

ZADIG allowed me to at least get the Windows 10 laptop able to bootload a REV7 and I am a happyish bunny again.
