Don't worry about it too much, though. There are other modules
which, while not as cheap, would still be suitable. I also
haven't ruled out doing my own module based on the newer SiLabs

Yes I am doing custom code for that, and it seems likely that
it will form the basis for the AVR branch of OpenTRV. The
mods I have done are to add an RFM23B and to break out the
programming pins to an external header. These are currently
just wire-mods, but I am considering whether there is any
scope for fitting headers that would plug in to a small custom
board, which would make assembly easier. I'll be writing all
this up online soon and publishing the code, but I wanted to
make some actual progress first.<br>

Any AVR programmer will do, but I would recommend the Atmel
one, which is the one you linked to. Probably easier getting
it from Farnell or RS.<br>

I'll keep you posted on the RPi board. Still waiting for the
blank boards to come back.<br>
