If you want more detail on this:
http://www.wufi.no/workshop-08/WUFI-BIO-Englisch.pdf
- it's quite complex - and probably not something to do on an embedded
controller I think. It also depends on the coldest surface in the room,
and how cold that is depends on the building construction, and also the
outside temperature. In some situations, if you have a heavy moisture
source in a room (e.g. open water present - although granted this is
relatively rare ), then raising the temp can actually make matters
worse. Raising the temp can also act to drive water vapour to elsewhere
in the building, where it can cause problems too.
If the data is available, then I think it's probably something to log
off to a box with more computing power (and access to outside temp and
humidity data, maybe some sort of model of a typical cold building, and
is able to do some analysis of the situation over time), which can raise
concerns perhaps through whatever mechanism is deemed the right thing to
do for the installation (e.g. flash an LED, email someone, open a
window, suggest installing some ventilation or a dehumidifier etc.
policy to be decided!).
Then you have health/comfort impacts from overly-dry interior climate
too, which in-turn may be a symptom of a leaky (not-very-air-tight)
building - especially when it's windy outside - again perhaps this is
useful info for someone, and could result in changes being made to a
building to improve comfort and reduce energy consumption.
Tim.
