If you're on a bus shelter, isn't a small PV cell feasible?  I'm
thinking of the sort of arrangement you usually see on those garden
lights - they're weatherproof, and typically charge a couple of AA NiMH
internally.

then you could sample more frequently, and might stand a better chance
of finding something?

I vaguely know someone who works for Path Intelligence in Portsmouth
